There's something to be said for lying on the floor in front of the fire listening to songs you haven't heard in ages, and staring at the roof thinking about shit, and that something is: I should do it more often.
I had a lot of options for tonight. A couple of different invites out, or drinking on my lonesome, or even sewing. But I think I made the right choice, spending a couple of hours reading random wikipedia articles and eating baked beans. And then taking to youtube to find all those songs that have slipped out of my regular rotation. The Youth Group and the Snow Patrol and the Coldplay and the Dr Hook.
Actually, apart from roadtrips (which are a brilliant excuse to do pretty much nothing but listen to music for 5 hours) I think the last time I did this was easter, when it was 1am on the beach. It's a shame. I'm so used to multitasking - to crochet as I watch tv, to sew with music in the background, to read while cooking (I'm pretty hardcore) that I don't take as much time to think and reflect and just be, quietly, as maybe I should.
See, whenever I'm being me, I tend to be almost obnoxiously me. As me as I can be. I'm usually me-ing my little heart out, reveling in the feeling of my me-ness, because it's damn awesome, if I do say so myself. I'm not ashamed of it, admittedly I rarely notice it, and I really don't mind it. But I suppose there's also something to be said for introspective me too.
And that something is, she has fabulous taste in music.

Stuff I'm liking...
Because I'm wild and crazy, I'm doing my favourite things on a Thursday. Yeah, hardcore. Well, not really. It's already Friday here.
My favourite thing today is sick days. 2am snack of hardboiled eggs last night left me with a tummy ache and so I called in sick and spent the day bumming about the lounge room. So while feeling shitty can be shitty, in my usual positive way, here's all the good bits.
I like how, on a regular day off, I would be stressing out and bustling about trying to get everything done. Whereas today I bummed about on the couch all day.
I like it when I manage to light the fire with the WD40 I usually use on my sewing machine. We've run out of firelighters, but it works quite well in case of an emergency.
I like it when the fire is really really hot. Too hot to sit right in front of, but at the point where it's just the right temperature two metres away on the couch.
I love blankets and pillows on the couch.
I love wireless internet. Having to deal with only the power cable is okay, but if I had to hardline my internet there'd be wires crisscrossed all over the lounge.
I love browsing online shops for dresses I will never buy.
I love knowing pretty much exactly how to make myself a ball gown off the top of my head. I need to get myself some tulle. I like tulle. Especially when it's rainbow.
I love mugs. Fancy mugs that would be one of a kind except I ordered 4 of them. I love drinking anything and everything out of my mugs. Except nesquik, because I like eating that dry out of the can.
I like completely disregarding the useby dates on things. Not last nights eggs - they were from the chooks next door, and had feathers on them instead of a date, but my can of banana nesquik. Expired 3 months ago but it still tastes fine.
I love the little box that plays the movies on my harddrive through the telly.
I love White Collar marathons. Less than 27 days till season 3 starts!
I like considering spending the night on the couch.
I like that I know my bed will be better.

Warm.
I had momentum. I had stuff done, and I took photos to prove it. It wasn't good stuff, but hey, stuff. Everybody loves stuff.
And now, it's nearly 4am, and I'm sitting on the couch because I cant be bothered going to bed. But Rhinestone Cowboy's on, so things aren't too bad.
Anyway, #50 is half done, but looks a bit crap*, the house is still a mess, we're still out of plates, the fire's still going and I still haven't made any progress on any of my bindings.
Particularly proud of the fire. It's 28 in here right now, and I'm sorry American friends, I've no idea what that translates to. "Fall asleep on the couch warm" I think, as opposed to the "bloody hell it's cold" 9 degrees outside.
*blocks are sewn but need to all be put together. I'm not sure if it looks bad because all the points don't match yet or if it's just bad, so I'll assemble it and try again tomorrow.

Blog from the couch
Daylight savings screwed me over and I planned to just come home and have an early night. Damn Commonwealth Games have trapped me on the couch.
And seriously, an 80,000 seat stadium? The MCG has a 100,018 seat capacity (how do I know this? the first Grand Final had an attendance of 100,016 and the newspaper wanted to know what kept the missing 2 from attending)

Brrrrr...
I am so ready for summer to come back. I'm sick of feeling cold all the time.
Normally we will have the fire going pretty much constantly through the winter in our house. But at the moment, Mum, Dad and our youngest sister have decided they're sick of the cold too, and they've gone off to Darwin. That leaves 3 of us home, but one has just broken up with her boyfriend and is out living it up, leaving Casey and I here, and unfortunately, the two of us aren't really around enough to keep it going. She works mornings (I sleep mornings) and, since noone's been home at night, she's been having dinner at friends houses, while I'm at work.
Even though the fire is very good at putting out heat (average winter temp without fire - 17C, with fire - 28C) its not very good at staying going for a long time. Even big chunks of wood, with the air supply turned down, tend to be burned through in about 3 hours, so the dream of lighting it before work to come home to a nice warm house never comes to fruition, especially as it's even worse when it's only just been lit. It needs attention every hour for the first 5 or so hours, and so I'll be coming home to a cold house after I finish work. Again.
Tomorrow though, I finish at 8.30, so I've got a good 4 hours of couch sitting time at my disposal, making lighting it totally worthwhile. Well, telling Casey to light it. I've built it all up ready, she just needs to put a lighter in and find some matches, and maybe I'll be nice and warm again.
P.S. Retro quilt got finished yesterday, and is very nice, but camera is on the charger, and can't make it out to the clothesline. Also, I wish it was warmer.

Bugger...
I've cut the retro quilt (number 5), but I'm being held hostage in the lounge by the comfy couch, the Law and Order DVDs and the nice warm fireplace, and as a result I simply can't get to my sewing machine in the bedroom.
I keep telling myself "just one more episode," and then I tell myself to put more wood on the fire, but it's raining outside and I can't be bothered. The wood in the barrel is probably damp anyway.
And I'll be going to my room to sew my blocks after this episode, so there's not really any point, is there?
I'm getting good at this. Soon I'll be able to talk myself into never doing anything at all.
I have to go now, the next episode just started.
:)
